Connecting – online participation and digital literaciesDuring these three important weeks the focus is to get familiar with and learn about the online learning spaces and the pedagogical design of ONL162. An essential part is to connect with peers and facilitators, begin to build relationships and to form groups. Together we will explore important literacies to survive and thrive in the digital age as learners and educators. As a starting point you will reflect on and discuss your own digital presence and identity as well as your experiences, concerns and challenges. You will be encouraged to start creating your own online learning space for sharing of reflections on your learning. 2. Open Learning – sharing and opennessIn this topic we will explore the benefits and challenges of openness in education. We will look at issues around copyright and in particular the open licensing of content (Creative Commons) and how this opens up new opportunities for collaborative learning and development. Sharing and reusing OER (Open Educational Resources) and the consequent development of OEP (Open Educational Practices) will also be examined. Finally we will take a look at the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) phenomenon, the different models of MOOCs and how this is changing the face of higher education. 3. Learning in communities – networked collaborative learningIn this third topic, we will explore aspects of collaborative learning in relation to networked online spaces for learning. To interact and learn together with peers in different formats have become an integral part of student centered education. Technology offers new possibilities for interaction and forming new kinds of social networks, including learners as well as facilitators and experts – but also offers challenges, such as keeping focus on learning processes, not tools, in online environments. You will be encouraged to reflect on the meaning of networked collaborative learning and the development of learning communities in relation to PBL and building personal learning networks and environments for peer support and your informal learning. 4. Design for online and blended learningFor this topic we turn the point-of-view from participation to the processes of designing for learning including scaffolding and facilitation. Learning design is a process that involves analyzing the learner, defining learning outcomes, creating learning activities, determining appropriate assessment methods, testing/implementing the design, and evaluating it. We will consider several frameworks for learning design including: Constructive alignment, the ADDIE-model, the Five Stage model, and the Community of Inquiry. 5. Lessons learnt – future practiceDuring this concluding week, peers and facilitators will share and reflect on learning experiences from ONL as well as look ahead to what this might mean for our present and future practice.
