Exploring Nuances of Open Educational Practices

Welcome to this webinar on Wednesday 20th October at 11:00 – 12:00 (CEST)

Watch the recorded webinar

Maha Bali, PhD, Associate Professor of Practice, Center for Learning and Teaching, American University in Cairo, Egypt.

In this session, participants will explore diverse understandings of open educational practices, and have opportunities to analyze different practices along three continua: content/process centricity, teacher/student centricity and pedagogical/social justice focus. Participants will dig deeper into certain practices and consider how a practice can work well in one context but not another, and how to imagine redesigning it to better promote social justice along three social justice dimensions: economic, cultural and political.

The session will build upon this article: Bali, M., Cronin, C., & Jhangiani, R. S. (2020). Framing Open Educational Practices from a Social Justice Perspective. Journal of Interactive Media in Education. 2020 (1), p. 10. DOI: http://doi.org/10.5334/jime.565

The webinar will use the web-conferencing tool Zoom.  Please make sure you have connected your webcam and headset before you enter the meeting room.
