From Closed to Open: Understanding and Using OER in Higher Education

This interactive webinar introduces the concept of Open Educational Resources (OER) to university staff, teachers, librarians, and administrators worldwide. Participants will discover why OER matter for enhancing access and usability, supporting open‑educational practices, and preventing copyright infringements. The session walks through the core principles of open licences, showcases concrete examples, and provides tips for further exploration.

Dr Sandra Schön is an expert in innovation in technology-enhanced learning and works as Senior Researcher at the „Institute of Human-Centred Computing (HCC)“ at TU Graz in collaboration with the „Educational Technologies“ team. From 2020 to 2024, Sandra worked as a Project Manager at the „Forum New Media in Teaching Austria“ (Graz) within the project “Open Education Austria Advanced”, responsible for the Austrian OER certificate implementation (https://www.oer-zertifikat.at/). I was as well Adjunct Professor of Innovations in Learning at the Universitas Negeri Malang (2020-2024).

The webinar will be in Zoom. Make sure you have a webcam and a headset set up before you enter the room. At this point it is unlikely, but if you have not used Zoom before you can watch this film explaining how to join a meeting. To go to the meeting, click the “Go to event” button to the right. You will however not have to use camera or microphone if you do not specifically want to ask questions outside the chat.
