In the movie ”The Matrix“ – which as I now realize is more than 20 years old – the character Neo is introduced into the world of the “The Matrix” by his mentor Morpheus and in the end of his introduction he is told: “I can only show you the door. You’re the one that has to walk through it”. This very well summarizes my experience with the ONL learning course on which I would like to briefly reflect in this final blog post.
More or less by accident I was thrown into a course of online learning, which, however, in times of global pandemics turned out to be highly relevant. It was a very interesting experience. I learned to know several interesting people. Not only were they from different continents and disciplines, but also not even academic teachers themselves, but e.g. responsible for online learning platforms in their respective institution. In this setting, we had the opportunity to exchange our ideas about do-s and dont-s in the practice of online learning. I also had the opportunity to try out different tools: Miro, Padlet, Prezi, and even shot a small video… Probably, this will be the first and last time I used one of those tools in my life. At least, I now have an account at several platforms. On the other hand – although only by a few weeks earlier than the rest of the world – I got myself acquainted with the meeting software Zoom which is now part of basically every working day. I learned several interesting insights for example about creative commons. But probably most importantly I learned to have an open view.
The door is open. Time to walk through.
