In this post I share my reflections about the roles of other persons in our learning process.

Learning is a type of journey, with longer or shorter distance, various places and situations along the way, but most importantly – with other people with whom we move, with whom we’ve been preparing for it, or with whom we will continue at its finishing line. Therefore, the role of our companions is extremely important, as our map can only help us to take the best road, and our tools can help us survive, but only other persons will give us actual purpose. Our journey can be full of symbols and surprises, both good and bad. The open mindset needs to be our guideline, as in the Dweck’s mindset theory based on the assumption that the fixed mindset is more focused on results and duties, rather than considering possible answers and exploring unknown. Only the open and hungry approach can allows us to collaborate and share knowledge in a continuous learning by sharing process.

I strongly believe that people around are the biggest value of our life and learning journey. Another important aspect of our it is sharing the stories, that can be real, fictional, mix and whatever else. In my opinion it is very important to live a curious and full life to collect experiences and stories for our future sharing and lecturing. Thinking about some teachers with no practical experience in the field, trying to teach about some phenomenon that they have only read about, but have never done in practice, makes me wonder if that is ever possible- how you can teach something you never did, you only learned from the others?

In the end of the day, sharing our experiences and acting as persons who are genuinely interested at particular domain can help us to exchange and finding the right answers. And although the domain territory can be a bit new or uncomfortable for us, I am sure open and humble mindset can still allow us to succeed. It all tells us to escape from the old and traditional way of teaching and learning, based on the hierarchy and imperative feeling that there is no other relation between teacher and students as with the king and minions, that only the teachers is omnipotent and possesses all the knowledge of the world, never failing and never being wrong. Today each of us involved in the learning process can in the same time act as a teacher and student- it only needs to acknowledge we are all humans, not perfect, yet fascinating!
