Summary of Topic 1.

I express myself better and more freely with pictures continuously in the meantime, but to get a certificate, text must be produced with references. It has been a hectic week and I have been very tired of everything new I have encountered. I did not really understand how PBL works and it took a while before I drew up a structure of different activities, such as filling in the FISh document and how the work should be structured. I made a pretty pale effort as a co-leader but I learned a lot.

I made my own map with visitor-resident and staff-institutional after David White’s (2014) film on YouTube (visitor and resident) and found it useful to explore this area myself to better understand myself. It turned out that I am often a visitor in my professional role and both visitor and resident in the private sector. Furthermore, I thought about where the students are. My experience is that students are often familiar with certain digital media but completely unfamiliar when I ask them to seek evidence-based methods of nursing. David White (2014) said that students may need to learn to use digital media effectively. Age is not the deciding factor in whether you succeed or not, but motivation for commitment is important.

There was also a YouTube video by David White about credibility (2014). In my professional role, we often talk about legitimate sources. Articles online have the same value as printed articles but what is the value of other sources such as Wikipedia, which students love to use. When students are to write about, for example, the concept of health and use the course literature, I know that the text there means a reliable source. Am I a teacher fossil?

When it came to Belshaw’s YouTube movie (2014) about ”the 8 essential elements of digital literacies”, I felt even more like a fossil. One of the elements was cognitive ability such as understanding how menus in systems work and there I can admit that I sometimes feel lost. Furthermore, I thought of the word confident which means happy to solve problems and manage their learning. There I have a little bad ability to handle my digital learning and solve problems. But I try to be creative and find new ways to teach but at the moment I am only comfortable with zoom and recorded movies, regular live lectures and practical teaching.

In connection with our Tweetchat, I just tried to keep up and I got a lot of summary of that tweet, which I also drew down. But the step to daring to start tweeting yourself feels long. I would love to be able to throw out a Padlet and let the students fill in and I really think such elements are activating and motivating but I still feel too insecure. Can I influence my weaknesses here now that I am aware? It remains to be seen….
