Hello everyone! I read a paper “Using Problem-Based Learning:
New Constellations for the 21st Century” by Savin Baden. I enjoyed reading the paper. It was indicated that online mediated learning is underpinned by theory of connectivism or pedagogy of connectivity (Savin Baden, 2014). However, how do we as academics encourage a safe milieu of connectivism for our students. I am teaching a year 2 module for nursing students. Each time I do encourage them to interact with one another through breakout room option. After their problem-based group discussion, students are encouraged to share what they have discussed to a larger group. However, based on my interactions with students, not all of them enjoy the break out room sessions as they feel that some are not participating equally. In any group, participants go through storming, norming before the forming of group dynamics. How far has these concepts been addressed in online learning? I am keen to learn more insights from those who have had experience in online teaching for a some time
