I know only a limited number of you will actually get to see this site, but for those who do – a warm welcome! My name is Craig Carlson and due to a lack of words, I will lift my introductory comments from the ONL discussions for the rest!
A warm welcome to everyone attending!
My name is Craig Carlson. I am a postdoctoral research fellow at Tampere University, having moved from South Africa where I was an associate lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg while doing my PhD. My background is in Electrical Engineering, and my current research interest is other-than-diagnostic uses of medical ultrasound. This course is an exciting opportunity to further my knowledge of university pedagogy and ultimately help me to develop my lecturing skills.
I am excited for the engaging discussions with each of you!
As well as a quick follow up to a question around my previous teaching experience
I have experience with teaching both in-person as well as online (courtesy of COVID) for class sizes varying from <20 — >300 students.
My passion for teaching stems from the deep satisfaction of being able to see the “Aha” moment when the lightbulb turns on when there is undertanding, and I have unfortunately felt a lack of that level of interaction with full online teaching. In my current position I have not had an opportunity yet to develop a course with a blended teaching approach, but I do have some ideas of how I would go about setting it up.
