Residence verses visitor

What does this concept mean to you?

To me this was a new concept and it really opened my though process in terms of everything that was discussed and covered in developing the content for our presentation for the first topic.

It was such a cleaver and interesting way to explain how we
portray ourselves on the various web platforms.

It was nice to know that many of my concerns were that of my fellow team members as well…. like security concerns and what is okay to share?

We discovered by discussion that many of us already had Avatar’s
that we created on the online world. Like with me for  example I wouldn’t necessarily place out
personal details about my family on LinkedIn as that is a platform, I have
decided to use for networking purposes and Watsup is a platform I use to connect
with friends and family and share tons of pictures and personal information etc.

If you look at what I just said in a Residence verses
Visitor reference, I would say that I am a visitor on LinkedIn as I log on once
a week or once in two weeks and I am a residence on whatsup as I am on that
platform daily. It was interestingly baffling to me when I really thought about
it ….. like what made me more susceptible to share information more freely on
one social media platform compared to the other? As both are social media
platforms… I guess I could have never thought about it that way before and its
thanks to Topic 1 that allowed me to.

So how could I use this information to adapt it to increase
student engagement online is the BIG question, I do have a few thoughts but
that would be another blog.

The learning that I took away from the ONL192 topic one is a
deeper understating of the  visitor verses
residence model and how it is used daily based on the Avatar or persona we
create for the platform we are on. As all platforms are on the web and can be
accessed by anyone…

So, I researched how to be safe on social media platforms. An
article I found interesting: https://carleton.ca/its/2016/social-media-safety/

As per many articles I perused on the world wide web no
information is 100% safe but I am still going to use it as it has become apart
of my daily life…as I am certain it is for almost everyone these days.

My conclusion is that we are more comfortable in sharing information
once we become more familiar with the platform especially when it’s with people
that we are comfortable similar to building comfort for a child in a classroom environment.
Once you build comfort it is easier for the child to express themselves….
