It was an overwhelming experience to take part in the ONL course. I am proud of making it till the end…! The course did take much time and effort, but it gave even – endless – more. I learnt to get along with very many more or less new online tools. Twitter, SWAY, prezi, canvas, padlet, wordclouds, mentimeter, flipgrid, doodle, google drive, memes and last but not least WordPress.
I have learnt that there are a lot technical online tools out there, so many that one can get exhausted and challenged in a positive way to choose a suitable one – for the current context. Important is to keep on trying. I am super happy that I got the access to this online world. During this course I came up with the conclusion that there is not only one best way to do things on an (online) course. When student´s deep learning is concerned very many aspects have to be considered. I got a new way to look at online teaching and I think we in PBL 10 learned a lot with our discussions. We had so many rewarding discussions. Overall I think that students needs quite a lot of guidance in their online learning methods. It is important to find the balance with (new) technical tools used in the online course and the learning process. Essential is to have clear goals and instructions at the beginning of the course. To get the routines established at the beginning of the course are essential. It requires clear instructions and a clear time plan ect.
Moreover I find the role of the facilitators most important. We were lucky to get a well organized and good facilitator to take us on this – quite long – learning experience. The learning path took about three months, but we noticed that time really flies… In our discussions of group 10 we all agreed on one basic idea – collaborative learning is very useful for the learning process. I am sure I am going to use some of the thoughts I got during the course. Some ideas I will put into practice in my own teaching context. I have realized that new forms of collaboration enables new ways of learning and actually you can get even more things done using these tools. I think collaboration is a great way to shift the focus from me as teacher to my role as (kind of a) facilitator. One of our group members stated good that in teaching is more about learning presence that teachers presence. And that is so true. I think we should take the risk in our course planning and try new tools! As teachers we have the possibility to improve our courses (if for example some tool after all does not fit into the course).
