My colleagues did the ONL course last year and shared with me about the course contents. They were using terms such as blog, google drive etc.  The terms such as blog, google drive seems new to me and I had no idea of what they were talking about. I realised that technology has advanced very fast and I needed to keep pace with it in order for me to stay relevant in today fast pace environment. I am comfortable communicating via email, what app and SMS and used Microsoft word extensively in my daily work. Thus, I decided to enrol in the ONL course.

The introductory week of the course was scary as I was expected to create several accounts; ONL, blog, goggle mail and Twitter and I have never done this before. It was indeed a challenging week for me having to find out instructions on creating these accounts. I managed to create all the accounts after several hours of struggling. In addition, I was scheduled to have an online via Zoom with members of my PBL groups who are from Nordic countries. I had difficulty in hearing my course mates because of their accents and could not comprehend when one of my course mates suggested all of us to create a Hot Spot and was sharing the process of creating the Hot Spot. I was unsuccessfully in creating the Hot Spot after investing several hours. I shared with one of my course mates that I wanted to give up and she immediately went online and showed me the step by step screenshot of creating the Hot Spot. Although, I have successfully created the Hot Spot for myself but I yet to find out the reasons for creating one. Perhaps, my course mates may have explained to us but I could have missed it because of their accent

According to David White Visitor- Resident Mapping, I am a visitor for emerging technologies such as blog, google drive etc. The main reason for this behaviour is that I do not used all these technologies at work and did not bother to take time off work to learn new skills related to emerging technologies. In addition, I do not have a Facebook for fear that my account may be hacked and I am also a private person. I am a resident in using SMS, what app and email as I used it every day in communicating with people both at and outside of work. I hope during this course, I can learned how to use the technologies and able to move from a visitor to resident mode.
