I might be a little prejudiced as this has been my preferred way of teaching in the past months – since the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to switch to online learning- however learning and teaching in a group, has major benefits when compared to the traditional way of teaching.

Working in a team broadens your views and perspectives, and that is not only on a professional/educational level, but also on a personal. I have observed many benefits, both as a teacher and a student. Especially during the process of learning in a team, I felt an educational growth and empowerment. When learning in a community, you hear different opinions, coming from students/colleagues of the same, or not, educational and cultural background. You unavoidably become more inclusive. You listen and learn to respect the other’s opinions and you become more open and flexible in your perspectives. You develop transferable skills, you share, interact, discuss and build trust. Learning in communities is such a powerful and dynamic approach to teaching and one has to fully embrace this opportunity, adapt it to his teaching material and improve it with novel ideas and techniques. There are a few design tips and tricks to be built in and integrated, but these will be discussed at a later post..
