I am just saying:

  • David Whites “Resident-Visitor Map”
  • Gilly Salmon “Five stage Scaffold model”
  • Tuckman “Team development stages”
  • Garrison “Community of Inquiry Framework”

During my ONL course I have been starting thinking differently about how and what online learning is. I mean – it was a wake up call for me when I got to understand the David Whites “Resident – Visitor”-map. Not everyone is on the same page regarding their presense or interest in digital and online environment. I get that – now! I was already sold on digital tools and have “bloomed out” as a teacher during this year on online teaching. That is MY cup of tea – not what everyone else thinks or likes. I focus more on facilitating, coordinating, structuring, helping and leading students in the right direction.

Also Gilly Salmons 5 stage Scaffold model was awesome and I truly believe that by stepwise help students to understand the e-tivities and online learning will make the whole difference between success and failure. I will for sure involve these into the programs we have!

I also learnt to know that the group process is so important – it could be like a roller coaster – or it might get really smooth – but hey – what is the best!? Have a look at Tuckman model ? We did experience some of those steps – and we to the benefit of learning from how the group interacted and communicated (or not at some points). That´s real life. We took a step back and learnt so much of this process!

But I also found proof that online teaching is (which I have experienced a lot) something else than on-campus teaching and it is not ONLY teaching in a classroom. Look at Garrisons COI-model where Social presence and Cognitive presence is as important as Teaching presence!

So, all that – together with the refelctions and sharing experience in great group 6, I have came much further in my understanding of ONL. It do takes a lot of effort to go there, time, energy, reading, commenting, writing, discussing and team building – but I learnt so much on the way.

These aspects, among so many others, helps me to know what step I will take to structure me online teaching. I am not saying I know ALL of it and know it best – I just know I love it ?
