Our group decided to focus on open rights instead of investigating on the scenario given. We explored and agreed on the five questions to be investigated. These five questions were (1) What do open rights mean for you? (2) What do you think are the benefits of open rights for educators? (3) What are the challenges of open rights for educators? (4) How can we put into practice? and (5) Can /should we protect our work somehow? One of our group members who has experienced in putting a video suggested that we should present our work via video. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive because in my experience, it will take tremendous amount of effort to shoot a video. My group member who will be putting the video together shared with us that everyone choose a questions and write a script for about 30 seconds. The video was done via the zoom. Each of us took our turn to record our assigned script. We had it done in less than half-an-hour. The next day, the edited video was sent to all of us via what app for comments. Wow, it’s an incredible experience for me to witness an effective and efficient way of recording a video. I learnt something new!! Also, our team members are all team players, everyone volunteered to do their part and of course one of our team member has 10 years of experience in video production and definitely contributed to our success in the video production.
I also learnt that Creative Commons is the middle along the continuum of copyright on the left and public domain on the right. The concept of Creative Commons is an entirely a new terminology to me, which can be summarised in graphic below on understanding Creative Commons:
Our facilitators on the webinar also shared with us several global platforms with varying Creative Commons Licence logo on it. I have an understanding on how to provide attribution, search the common and licensing via creative commons organisation. In addition, I also learnt the concept of 4Rs framework- reuse, revise, remix and redistribute. Reuse is the right to reuse the content in any form. Revise is the right to adapt, adjust, modify, or alter the content itself. Remix is the right to combine the original or revise the content with other content to create something new. Redistribute is the right to share copies of the original content, do revision or remix with other content..
With the knowledge gained on each of the terms related to creative commons license and the concept of 4 Rs framework, I am more confident in accessing materials on the web.
