Openness in education

Enjoying education without restriction, this is my understanding of what a open education is about. Wiley and Green, mentioned that there are three principal influence of openness on education: open educational resources, open access, and open teaching.
Opening Educational Resources refer to open educational material that are either licensed under open copyright license or in the public domain, and user would be able to revise, remix, reuse and redistribute the resources without any cost.
The creator of these resources believe that education is sharing and the success of an educator can be measured based on the how much knowledge the educator pass on to the students, and therefore it should be extremely efficient and affordable. The internet has allowed knowledge to be easily copied and shared and it can reach out to a large audience in a short time, disregarding any geo-political borders, age – limit or social barriers.
As compared to the past where most knowledge are on physical textbooks, content on the internet are not as strictly regulated by copyright law, it can be easily remixed or revised.
After reading this article, I believe that open license has made it easier for educator to recompile material that they perceive to be better for his student.
MOOC websites such as coursera and edX are open education platform that would provide education to those who wish to learn informally from university. But I feel that these platform exploit the need for proper certification to entice users to pay at the end of the course, or would pass off the free course as a preview of what the university is actually providing.
