Over the course of my ONL journey, it’s been a wonderful exploration into the world of online and blended learning. I am finding useful application of what I am learning on this journey to my work on a new teaching module for the upcoming semester in August. This module will be delivered using the blended learning approach which integrates technology and digital media with digital whiteboards for group activities, such as short videos, readings, online quizzes, assignments, and online group discussions.

Because of the large cohort of students for this teaching module, the challenge for this module is to design a student-centered learning experience at scale using a blended learning approach. I’ve applied many strategies and concepts I learned on my ONL journey to the new teaching module’s design to create a blended collaborative digital learning platform, which includes the Problem-Based Learning or PBL teaching strategy, the FISh model (Focus, Investigate and Share), and Learning and Collaborative Spaces at the class and small group level (Course Community Space and PBL Group Space).

The proposed blended collaborative digital learning platform provides the necessary materials and resources for students to construct their knowledge, as well as supports social interaction and collaboration using discussion forums, web conferencing, and electronic whiteboards such as Miro.

My role as the teacher as well as the course convenor will support and coach students in their learning at the class level. The students are placed within small PBL groups and will be guided by a facilitator throughout their learning journey for this new module. Through the PBL groups and PBL discussion forums, interactions extend from individuals to PBL groups and the wider community of other PBL groups.

With the design work more or less completed, I have embarked on the development work and I am looking forward to the challenges for this teaching module.
