The Covid pandemic has boosted global online education needs. As a teacher, I wanted to learn new things to deal with increased online learning needs and, therefore, I join the international Open online learning course (ONL211). The course is divided in several topics, and in Topic 1 we looked at online participation and digital literacies.
We were introduced to the concept of digital literacies presented by Dave White. Although I am pretty active in the digital world, these concepts were new to me. However, I identified myself with the presented concept of online engagement visitor/resident and institutional/personal. We were divided in project-based learning groups and elaborated on the topic. We used the FISh model (1), including 3 main steps focus, investigate and share. It was eventually discovered that the original idea of the FISh model was not linear but rather iterative, which was not apparent for some of the group members. Eventually, we produced a diagram representing the online engagement in the form of mandala.
After going through topic 1, I feel Open online learning will significantly impact my development as a teacher in online learning. The selection of topics and guests and shared experiences is precious. I am looking forward Topic 2, which is focused on Sharing and openness.
