The ONL course has been very useful, especially in the time of Covid19, inspirational and fun to participate in! I have met and worked online with so nice and generous persons. I would say that the most important thing that I have learnt through my engagement in the ONL course is that each participant has an impact for the learning process and the learning experience of the whole group. Each participant comes to the group with experiences from life and previous group collaborations, and each one has different individual qualities that the group could benefit from. Therefore it is also important that the group get time and space to get to know each other, and find out each other’s individual qualities. Through my engagement in the ONL course I also discovered that there was an absence of someone in the group taking clear leadership. Instead, there was a humility that led everyone in the group to have the opportunity and took responsibility for the cooperation within the group to progress.
My learning in the ONL course will influence my practice in many ways. As a course-leader of the first course in the nursing program I will develop, together with the teachers in the course, ways for the students to get to know each other during the first weeks of the course. For this, the students´ emotions during the learning process in the course, need to be taken into consideration and plan regular reflection activities about their current emotions related to learning. Questions about collaboration need to be addressed early in the education and also highlight the university’s guidelines on eg. “code of conduct” (at KI) and discrimination.
I will also develop my course by starting use more of technical aspects, such as short video or voice recordings, padlet, mural etc. for both teachers and students to use. I believe that using different methods of learning will improve the learning of my students. However, for all teachers in the course to be able to use technology requires both willingness and interest to adopt the different methods. As I have blogged before, we are in a time when the digital age is starting to become more and more important. Consideration must also be taken that a lot of persons have not yet developed sufficient degree of digital competence and might have lower degree of digital literacy. I have high hopes that within the next 10 years or so, there has been a significant improvement in digital knowledge in the population, which in turn also shows in the quality of education provided online.
