Design for online and blended learning is critical in the curriculum development process just in traditional face to face classroom setting. Education is vast and the multidisciplinary nature would essentially necessitate the need to have the course designed in a manner that will ensure that the learning outcome is achieved. A design that may suit delivery of one course may not necessarily achieve the same with a different course.
It is therefore essential that design is well though out during curriculum/course development and it needs to include all the stakeholders in the teaching and learning space. The design should align to the principles of online and blended learning as elaborately discussed in the course to encourage communication, collaboration, reflection, assessments , and development a sense of community with purposeful inquiry that translates to resolution.
The design must ensure it allow inclusion of the various forms of presence i.e teaching presence, social presence, cognitive presence and emotional presence. This will provide an environment that is conducive/safe to learn and the chances of achieving learning outcomes increased.
Tailor made designs will ensure maximum benefit to the learners.
