My mending guild meets every 2nd Wednesday at 7pm. We go through our piles of fallen hems and missing buttons, strategizing moth holes and worn knees. Sometimes we learn a new technique together, and sometimes the life that happened in those garments weaves its way through the conversation.
Though we are only scheduled to the end of March, last night we talked of whether we wanted to continue. We talked about how incredible it was, to have 90 minutes set aside for mending, and how we got through more work than we had in the years previous. Our facilitator called our meetings Gentle Accountability, which I liked very much. It described something I would like to build into my learning communities, both as teacher and learner.
