Looking at the climax our journey has taken since Topic 1, it is clear that Topic 4 with the educator perspective brings us back into the role of learning designer and enabler that we all are. I like the metaphor of a DJ using the devices to create and design a good experience for the audience.

From this perspective – and with some 14 months of ad hoc experience – in emergency teaching, redesigning and reimagining learning under Corona conditions – we stepped into the shoes of the ONL core team in the group that had to design and shape Topic 4. To do this, we used a tool, Learning Designer, from University College London (GB) which takes a simple yet very sophisticated approach. At the center of this approach is in fact the same question as in Marti Cleveland-Innes‘ presentation: What will the students actually do?

We in the PBL05 group now have an incredible group confidence and sense of teamwork that we can and will manage the challenge together in terms of content as well as form and time. That makes me happy! To create something together with others that can support us and also those who watch it in their learning. This applies to ONL as well as to my normal learning and teaching at my university.

At the same time, however, I also notice that the great additional content on ONL or on the posts of the other PBL groups are also very appealing to me and arouse my interest. However, I clearly prefer to grow and overcome a challenge together with others than to read an additional article and their research method. Learning and the „aha“ moment happens more often when I do something – instead of just thinking or reading about something. This way of learning becomes especially clear to me when I think about the many teamworks in ONL. It was the actual DOING that helped me to learn better.

The use of the „Learning Designer“ and also the creation of the share part using a loom as a walkthrough through our results have strengthened my interest to use these tools even more and to use them for my own (but also the) learning (of others).
