A quote from Alice in Wonderland

Alice: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” The Cheshire Cat: “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice: “I don’t much care where.” The Cheshire Cat: “Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.”

This is also a question I ask our students the first day of University – what is your ”why”? Students look puzzled and I calm them by encouraging them to find their ”why” during their studies. Because if they find their why – HOW they will get there will become easier.

Why did I decide to join this course? I believe in development, personal as well as communal. I believe that if one decides to be satisfied (“this is enough”), it is time to do something else. This can be a constant struggle in life but it also depends on how you look upon your life. It is not about constantly changing or doing new things – it is more about contstantly developing. So even though I have been at the university for 20 years, it doesn’t mean I’ve been in the same place in 20 years. The world of university is constantly changing on all levels: research, pedagogical methods, type of students.

I have been teaching different online courses (asynchronously) for 10 years and at our university we have been offering these types of courses for more than 20 years. So keeping up with technological development and also pedagogical tools is a challenge. The big discussion now is how to make use of the experiences we have gained this past 2 years and how to pick the best of it and continue with some activities online and other activities face to face.

This course seems to be about opening your mind and changing views and I’m happy I decided to join this community.

Where am I going?
