ONL Topic 4- Designing an Online course
For me this has been the best weeks at ONL as I am embarking on the voyage of designing a totally online course for international students for next year. I feel that during these weeks I have learnt a lot, had many epiphanies and I actually feel that I have a toolbox for designing an Online course. The webinars have also given med some thoughts around what to do and what not to do when designing the online course. At my university we have not had that much info on this topic and that is why I am really grateful for this topic.
During our discussions in the PBL group 3 we shared good tools for designing an online course which I am super grateful for. Further we had a good discussion on synchronous versus asynchronous teaching which felt helpful. I actually feel here again that same of the important differences have been made more clear to me and I will take this into consideration when designing my course. From the group work I have been given information about good tools. I know that I will use myScripting when designing my course and I will also try out the tips I gained from my group member Osman Mohamads LinkedIn article on Robert Gagnes model for designing E-learning. I feel that this was very similar as the things that Martin Waller (2022) talked about during his webinar.
Hodges et al (2020) bring up the situation that most of us where faced with in the spring 2020 when our courses moved online but did not actually become online courses. There was some very good points and learnings that I will take with me now when designing my first real online course. I totally agree with Hodges that in spring 2020 we only moved our courses online but did not design online courses in its true meaning.
I look forward to the opportunity to now design a real online course for the first time with a bag full of new knowledge.
