Topic 1: Online Participation & Digital Literacies

Marc Prensky invented and popularized the terms digital natives and digital immigrants to describe respectively an individual born into the digital age and one adopting the appropriate skills later in life (Prensky, 2001). A digital immigrant refers to an individual who adopts technology later in life. So, I guess fall under the category of a digitalContinue reading “Topic 1: Online Participation & Digital Literacies”

Topic 3: Topic 3: Learning in Communities – Networked Collaborative Learning

As I reflect on Topic 3, I start of by asking what is a learning community? – Learning communities provide a platform/space where people can link up to discuss and brainstrom a shared goal. Learning communities connect people and enable participants to share results and learn from each other, thereby improving their ability to achieveContinue reading “Topic 3: Topic 3: Learning in Communities – Networked Collaborative Learning”

Topic 4: Design for online and blended learning

This week I have started to think about the ways in which I can design a blended course. In order to do so, I had to consider various issues: 1- What is a blended course? Topic 2 – Openness and sharing in higher education

What does openness mean to me? Concerning research, openness is important to reach as many readers as possible. It may however sometimes be challenging considering costs for open access and ethical issues related to data sharing. Concerning teaching, I have so far not shared my lectures online with open access. However, this course has given […]

My first time

So, I’m in the ONL192 online course and this is my first experience with online learning. Or is it really? Now when thinking about it I realize that I everyday use the internet to learn loads of different things. Both practical stuff where the searchability and video format are incredibly powerful tools, detailed information that […]

Topic 2: Open Learning-Sharing and Openness

In topic two, I had a chance to learn about sharing and openness, and think about the pros and cons of openness in teaching and learning. In a sense, like the visitor and residence continuum in the digital world, there is a continuum of sharing and openness. I might be very open at times, as […]
