For me the question about the openness of education and knowledge is a question of equality and a promotion of a common good. Coming from Finland, I have internalized an equality as a strong value. I see that education belongs to everybody and it is a way to build better society. In Finland, education has … Continue reading “Openness of education for a common good”
This reflection was inspired by our discussions in the group and partly co-authored with Jonas Widtfelter. It stems from an attempt to figure out the push for digital literacy across the board. The pressures...
The topic for this reflective text is Opennes in Education. I have thoroughly pondered upon it over the last two weeks. I started by examining the content of the word ‘open’ looking at how it is used in various idiomatic expressions. I found that many had a positive ring to them and nice images poppedFortsätt läsa “Open, Sesame!”
Of course being ‘open’ entails the idea of sharing and where would we be without sharing? Something I read or heard recently (sorry, can’t remember where) talked about how Wikipedia can only exist because individuals are prepared to share. Our group soon realized that it was a far more complex topic than what we initially thought. ThereContinue reading “Open education as a Disruption”
I’m interested in opening up some of my courses and sharing the resources in a responsible way, but I don’t really know where to start. What options are there for offering courses that are open? How do I get support from my colleagues and how do I introduce the idea to my students? What areContinue reading “Breakfast Knowledge and Openness”
The second topic in the ONL202 course was about the sharing and openness in ‘Open Learning’. The discussions were about how to share an online course or course material, why it is of interest, what value could it add, and the possible consequences of sharing online course material. The discussions around this topic became veryContinue reading “Opennes – What’s in it for me? (ONL202 Topic 2)”
I’ve thought a lot about my earlier blog posts and I think I’ve made some progress in class understanding. In my second and third posts I said something to the effect of “I have no idea what’s going on.” Now I think I come to an understanding about the topic around the time the topicContinue reading “Reflection week”
In my field, for both teaching and research, there is significant computer code in the form of high-level scripting languages. Popular choices include, but are definitely not limited to, MATLAB, Python, and R. Even very specific, advanced software has a scripting option which allows you to explore a complex space through basically, a text boxContinue reading “Openness in teaching as it relates to my subject material”
