What can be shared and what should be shared. This is a question that divides people. In my network of friends on Facebook I have friends who share everything in their lives, both good and bad things. Further I have friends who share a lot but only good things and the question is…is life always good for anyone? Further the most common category are these who seldom share but when they do it is something from their everyday life, a job advert etc…nothing really special. The last category are the shadows or ghosts…they read (I suspect) but they never publish. Is one category better then the other or one not acceptable. I would argue that most people who share a lot do it as Jesse Bauman (2022) says to be seen or to show their importance (see what I know). He also argues that there is a difference on where you share, this I find very true. I myself am very “boring” on Facebook but I share much more on LinkedIn which according to Bauman would be Careerist. I would agree on this, I do it as part of my career but maybe not to advance in my career but to share what I am doing as part of my career- so maybe a bit to fulfill myself.

Averumi Weinberger (2018) has some very similar arguments and I feel that we also have to look at the generation shift here possibly. I still feel that there is a problem with this as Weinberger says that 84% share information because they find it interesting. The problem is that online we are fed with a lot of information that can be disinformation and if we share it the disinformation just grows. I think we have to be careful with the information we choose to share if it originates from someone else. This is something I feel that we need to inform and teach our students about.

In the future I think that there will be a shift in sharing but I am not shore if people will be more open or more closed. During the Webinar with Maha Bali she talked about giving recognition…there are many things that still need to find its way.
